Shelley McCabe

The focus of my role is to work within the southern region, supporting and facilitating implementation of mental health and addiction workforce development initiatives, and identifying opportunites to support the mental health workforce across the sector. The challenge of the role is to be responsive at a local and regional level, aligning this with national strategies and priorities. I also represent the other workforce centres, using the relationships I have in the region to assist them in the implemention of national workforce programmes.

My career within mental health has spanned 16 years, predominantly working within the provider arm alongside adults, children and their family/whanau. Roles have included clinical, managerial and project work. I have also worked in the social services and education sectors which was interesting, challenging and complemented my knowledge of the mental health sector.

I have completed a BA in Psychology and a Postgraduate degree in Social Work. I have completed further study in specialist mental health through the Otago School of Medicine.

I am excited and inspired by the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the development of an integrated mental health system that is responsive to the needs of  the people who use services and their families/whanau.
