Te Pou facilitated a leadership day on 20 July 2012 for leaders from a wide range of mental health and addiction areas. This year’s focus was on the reduction of seclusion and restraint and more effective acute service delivery.
At the same time that we grow the skills and knowledge of the Pacific workforce, a major focus for Le Va is to enhance the responsiveness of services so that Pacific families are accessing quality care.
I recently had the pleasure of attending Southland DHB's launch of its 100 day mental health and addiction strategic plan. I was asked about Te Pou's role in supporting evidence-based practice. We have a number of mechanisms to do this.
What do the mental health and disability sectors have in common with our New Zealand Olympic athletes? Plenty! Persistence, planning, commitment, coaching, and hours of practice – all these factors also apply to the innovative work that mental health and disability services are developing.
The environment is a central factor for the treatment of people with acute mental health and addiction issues. It has long been speculated that the physical environment in which treatment occurs impacts on both the treatment process and the outcomes for service users.
