About us
Thinking differently... Acting with purpose
Welcome to Te Pou, New Zealand's National Centre of Mental Health Research, Information and Workforce Development. Our key objectives are: to build a strong and enduring workforce to deliver mental health services to all people; and to develop a culture of continuous quality improvement in which information and knowledge is welcomed and used to enhance recovery and service development.
Funded by the Ministry of Health, Te Pou is charged with creating a mental health hub for New Zealand. Its work is performed within four distinct, but interrelated, programmes - Workforce Research Information and Le Va - Pasifika within Te Pou

Where strong relationships exist, anything is possible
Te Pou is building relationships with key people and agencies, and is currently clarifying, through talking to stakeholders, who needs to be actively involved, who Te Pou needs for support and who the wider groups of people are that need to be kept informed on an ongoing basis.
The centre's staff will work closely with organisations that either directly contract with the Ministry to provide complementary workforce development and research programmes, or are considered to be key agencies that may assist in advancing initiatives. Te Pou will deliver services to Maori in a manner that is consistent with, and illustrates a clear and practical commitment to, the objectives of Maori health as outlined in Te Tahuhu. Services to Maori will recognise the intention of improving Maori health status to the same level as that of the community as a whole.Services to Maori - following a Treaty of Waitangi framework
