My tribal affiliations are to Te Aupouri, Te Rarawa and Nga-Puhi-nui-tonu. I have a background in public health with my formative years spent in alcohol and drug education and generic health promotion. During the last 10 years as a public health consultant I have worked in various roles providing workforce development training and advice in public health. Working at Te Pou, within a kaupapa committed to health outcomes, has made my transition to mental health a challenging and rewarding experience.

I have lived in the Waikato all my life - brought up on a farm outside Matamata in Okauia and now living in Hamilton.

I have a Master's Degree in Statistics with additional skills in data analysis and demography - I enjoy looking at numerical patterns and trends. Previously, I have worked in the Health and Disability Analysis Unit at the Midland Regional Health Authority, the Population Studies Centre at the University of Waikato and the Population Health Service at Waikato DHB in research and analyst positions.

My obsession outside work is golf - I spend most weekends on the golf course.

Working for Te Pou will enable me to use my skill to make a difference to mental health.

Kia ora. I initially trained as a psychiatric nurse, completed a management degree and have worked in the mental health sector for some years. I am passionate about mental health, the people who deliver the service and the people who use services.

I see the fourth wave in mental health as "outcomes", which is exciting but humbling; exciting because I am part of this movement and humbling because I am able to be part of this movement.

Since joining Te Pou in March 2007, I have enjoyed getting to know the mental health and addiction sector - and the dedicated, committed people who work in it. I believe it is important that we value and support those who choose a career in this sector.

I bring a variety of skills and experiences to Te Pou. Graduating from the University of Auckland, with a Master's degree in history, I launched straight into a job as a historian investigating claims before the Waitangi Tribunal. I then headed off to London for six years, where I worked in research and analysis in the worlds of finance and advertising. Three years in advertising led me to hanker after a job that will make a difference to the community - which led me to Te Pou!

I was born and bred in the Waikato with a couple of years spent overseas. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of workplaces in different roles learning many skills. In recent years I have enjoyed working for just over 6 years in retail as a floor manager for a surf shop and then the privilege to work for my parents business as the office manager for Softwash Ltd – exterior cleaning company for 6 ½ years.

I am excited about this new challenge and working in the mental health sector with the friendly team at Te Pou Information in Hamilton. I will be helping to support this team by applying my administrative skills where needed.

Dr Mark Smith
Clinical lead specialist

This position presents an opportunity to have a national impact on the development of mental health and clinical services in New Zealand, through better use of clinical information within services - particularly outcome-based information - and hence the ability to assist service users with their recovery.

My background is originally from the UK, but I am now naturalised as a New Zealander. I have worked as a registered psychiatric nurse and recently as a Registered Nurse Practitioner in mental health with the Waikato DHB.

My recent experience has included university lecturing in the clinical master's programme of Auckland University - an experience I found very rewarding.

I  have a PhD in Philosophy from Waikato, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychiatry from Melbourne University. Perhaps my best qualification, however, is a recognition of how much there is still to learn about the impact of outcome measure information on clinical and mental health services.

Kia ora koutou. I am a graduate of Waikato University and Tokanui Hospital. I bring both these experiences to my commitment to work towards developing excellent systems that best support tangata whaiora/service users. My vision for tangata whaiora/service users is that we are more than psychiatric survivors - we are thrivers.

I come to Te Pou with experience of accessing services, and having worked in residential care and a community activity centre as a support worker and as a consumer employment consultant. The transition from working individually with service users to working systemically is exciting.

I thank all those people who have challenged and supported me over the years and look forward to giving something back.

Raised in Auckland I've recently returned to New Zealand after spending more than 10 years in London. While over in the 'big smoke' I worked in a number of roles within the investment banking world, most recently at Morgan Stanley. This was obviously just a sideline my real occupation - visiting art galleries, going to concerts and travelling to many interesting cities!

I am new to the mental health sector, and there is a lot to learn. I am lucky to have a dedicated, experienced and interesting team to learn from. I am glad to be part of an organisation who makes a difference to the well-being of New Zealanders.

In my spare time I can be found exploring Auckland on my new retro-style scooter...

I was born and raised in the Waikato region. However I have lived and worked in different parts of the country.

I am a qualified social worker and have around 13 years' experience in various mental health settings, both in New Zealand and overseas. The last nine years have seen me in clinical and leadership roles with Health Waikato. Prior to this I have practiced in the child protection and NGO sectors.

I am particularly interested in the social context and social consequences of mental health issues for service users, and how models of social inclusion and social change can be incorporated into the recovery pathway.

Te Pou will offer me the opportunity to extend my skills and integrate sound information towards positive outcomes for service users.

I have had around 10 years' experience in various mental health information systems developments, initially with Waikato DHB, then as a member of the CAOS (Classification and Outcomes Study) National Team.

Since CAOS, I've had two beautiful children and, in-between, have come back to work part-time for MH-SMART.

Working part-time for Te Pou allows me to balance the best of both worlds - looking after my kids and still being involved in one of the most exciting phases of the MH-SMART Initiative.

I've seen the initiative change and grow over the past few years, but for me this information utility phase really is the most exciting. So far... !

Tena koutou - greetings. I live in the Wairarapa - and look out from my cottage to the wonderful Tararua Ranges - my biggest pleasure is biking three kilometres to Greytown for my coffee in the morning!!

Over the years, I have worked as project manager for several DHBs, most recently with Hutt Valley and Wairarapa DHB mental health services. This work includes service development, quality improvement and audit, and currently as the site coordinator for MH-SMART/PRIMHD programme for the Wairarapa Mental Health Service.

Alcohol and other drug and mental health are areas I still feel passionate about, and I am continually encouraged by the changes and challenges taken up by skilled and committed people working in these areas to improve all aspects of services for tangata whaiora/ service users.

I also have a strong interest in workforce development and leadership/management coaching. I provide two-day developmental workshops for leaders/managers throughout New Zealand, and follow up one on one developmental coaching.

I have a Post Grad Diploma in Health Service Management, am a licensed COACHU Coaching Clinic facilitator, and registered with the IRCA (International Register of Certified Auditors) as a lead auditor.
