2010 exchange Q&A

Why are only 30 people from New Zealand going to the 2010 exchange in Ireland?
As the Ministry of Health is the overall “governor” of this international leadership exchange and development programme, it has advised that New Zealand may only send a maximum of 30 participants to Ireland in 2010.

Does everyone have to apply through the Te Pou application process, even if I have been to an exchange before?
Yes. In order to apply fairness and equity across the sector, and to ensure that participants in the programme have the opportunity to get the best outcomes, everyone who would like to attend needs to fill in the application form – this process is not about funding, it is about limiting the numbers.

Can a person from a DHB apply for a scholarship?
Yes if they have their manager’s approval but preference will be given to new and emerging leaders, who are not able to obtain funding support from an employer or sponsor.

Who makes the decision regarding the scholarships?
A panel convened by Te Pou

Who makes the decision regarding the other categories?
The Ministry of Health, with assistance from a panel

Can more than one person attend from one organisation/DHB?
Only possibly one from the scholarship category and one from one of the other categories (i.e. maximum two). In general one person is ideal from each organisation.  This also to try an ensure some fairness and equity across the sector.
