What is PRIMHD?

Programme for the Integration of Mental Health Data (PRIMHD) = MH-SMART + MHINC

PRIMHD is the name of a programme that integrates New Zealand's two national mental health data collections: the Mental Health Information National Collection (MHINC) and the Mental Health Standard Measures of Assessment and Recovery (MH-SMART). This integrated data will assist in describing who receives what services from whom, and changes in the service users' health, wellbeing and circumstances.

Why PRIMHD?

PRIMHD is one of four priority projects described in the implementation plan of the National Mental Health Information Strategy (2006).

The collection of quality outcome data under MH-SMART will progress the development of a national dataset that supports a better and more detailed understanding of changes in health, wellbeing and circumstances for those accessing mental health services.

PRIMHD will also provide services with valuable information to support planning activities. For this reason, it is important that the sector continues to maintain momentum embedding the collection of outcome measures into routine practice and, at the same time, works on integrating that information with the current national data collection, MHINC.

What is Te Pou doing?

Te Pou sits on a joint working group that is developing a set of National PRIMHD reports.

A consultation document was produced by the group, identifying eight standard outcome reports. A number of DHB site coordinators have commented on the consultation document, and Te Pou is now working with the Ministry of Health to develop reporting specifications for the eight outcome reports.

The National PRIMHD Outcomes reports are available for download in PDF format below.
