Te Pou to administer National Training Coordination Service (NTC), Disability Support
An announcement from Te Pou Chief Executive Robyn Shearer
20 January 2010
I am delighted to announce that Te Pou has been contracted by the Disability Support Services Group within the Ministry of Health, National Health Board – Business Unit, to develop and deliver a new National Training Coordination Service. The service has been established to assist in the implementation of the Disability Support Services Workforce Action Plan (MOH 2009).
The National Training Coordination Service (NTC) will provide independent training coordination services and administer training grants. It will also support the existing Disability Support Services Leadership Development Scheme and Consumer Leadership and Training Fund initiatives. The overall aim of the NTC will be to contribute positively to the wellbeing of people with disabilities by supporting workforce development for frontline staff.
Te Pou is New Zealand's National Centre of Mental Health Research, Information and Workforce Development. Our work within the mental health and addictions sector has a focus on:
- development and translation of knowledge to action to improve services
- delivery of effective services through development of the workforce
- effective mental health services for Pasifika through development of the workforce.
We will bring the experience from our current programme to this new work with the disability sector.
Working within the disability sector is a new and exciting challenge for Te Pou. Our first priority will be to collaborate closely with the sector to build effective working relationships. As soon as possible we will undertake sector engagement, led by a National Training Coordination Service team. Recruitment for the team lead has already begun; health and disability workers with a passion for and experience in the disability sector are encouraged to view the position description and apply.
