Le Va, Pasifika within Te Pou

Le Va is New Zealand’s national Pacific health workforce development programme within Te Pou. Our vision is clear - vibrant Pacific leadership and well Pacific families.

Our purpose is to enhance the quality of services for Pacific peoples and their families.

Our approach is holistic: we believe health encompasses mental, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing. Our portfolio supports this perspective, encompassing workforce development across mental health, addictions, disability and general health.

Mental health, addiction, disability support

Le Va is proud to be valued as New Zealand’s national hub for Pasifika mental health and addiction workforce development, as well as national co-ordination for the disability support services sector. We play a role in translating policy into practice for all three sectors at a national level, meeting local needs. A major focus is enhancing the responsiveness of mainstream services to better meet the needs of our Pasifika communities.

Futures that work

The Futures that work programme aims to grow a qualified, flexible and sustainable Pacific health workforce. We do this by implementing a fit-for-purpose pipeline approach from training right through to employment. It’s about:

  1. providing financial support through scholarships, awards and grants
  2. ensuring successful advancement in study and career, and
  3. being job-ready and transitioning to work
