Disability sector training needs and barriers

Part of our role involves monitoring workforce training needs and barriers to better inform future planning and priority setting.

The 2011 Disability Support Services: Workforce Training Needs and Barriers report summarises information from recent sector feedback and a review of earlier workforce surveys.

Regional facilitators are continuing to gather information on training needs and barriers, along with potential solutions. You can also provide feedback online.

To support increased awareness and access to relevant training, a disability training directory is currently being developed in partnership with New Zealand Disability Support Network (NZDSN) and other key stakeholders. The directory is primarily targeted to Ministry of Health funded disability support services. You can download a submission form to include your externally provided training in the training directory. The directory is expected to be available late in 2011.

A review is currently being undertaken to identify tools and resources to support workforce training and development (such as learning support and needs analysis tools).

If you would like to share workforce development initiatives, stories or resources that support workforce training and development please contact your regional facilitator.
