Lynley Byrne

Programme lead

I am the programme lead for the Integrated Primary Mental Health and Addiction programme, which will extend access to mental health and addiction support for New Zealand's population within general practice.

My professional background has been as a mental health nurse in the primary mental health scope of practice for over 15 years, in various roles both from the DHB focus and a PHO focus.

Latterly I worked clinically as a mental health nurse practitioner and clinical lead in one of New Zealand's largest PHOs. This also afforded me the opportunity to work with others around the country in the primary mental health leadership space and together we developed Closing the Loop (2016) which was the vision of primary mental health in New Zealand. It was following this that the pilot utilising the behavioural model of care was commenced.

I have also worked closely with Whitireia polytechnic tutoring mental health assessment for post graduate students undertaking the New Entry to Speciality Pracitce (NESP) programme and was involved in the rewriting and editing of Mental Health in Primary Care 2nd ED (2018).
