We are proud to launch the 2026-2031 Mātau ā-wheako CPSLE Strategy and Action Plan, developed through extensive engagement and consultation across the mental health and addiction sector. The strategy reflects the aspirations, insights and priorities of the Consumer, Peer Support and Lived Experience (CPSLE) workforce and those who support its growth and success.

This launch is also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the past five years. During this time, the CPSLE workforce has grown in visibility, influence, and impact, with lived and living experience increasingly recognised as a vital source of expertise across the sector. These achievements provide a strong foundation for the next stage of workforce development.

The CPSLE workforce plays an important and growing role in our mental health and addiction system. Grounded in lived and living experience, it brings unique values, competencies and perspectives that strengthen services and support better outcomes for people and whānau.

We invite the CPSLE workforce, allies, partners, and all those interested in lived experience leadership to celebrate both how far we have come and where we are heading. Delivering on this strategy will require collective commitment from funders, planners, service leaders, educators, employers, practitioners, and the workforce itself.

This strategy reflects the aspirations of the workforce. Its success depends on all of us working together to turn these aspirations into action and strengthen the contribution of lived and living expertise across Aotearoa New Zealand.
