HoNOS family case studies
Unfamiliar with the HoNOS suite of measures or looking for some practice scenarios?
This e-learning module consists of case studies to increase your skills in using HoNOS, HoNOSCA, HoNOSI, HoNOS65+, HoNOS-LD and HoNOS-secure. You can practice rating case studies and see how your rating checks out against the consensus rating.
Each case study has a written vignette and a video. Instructions are given along the way.

HoNOS introductory training
Are you looking to learn about the HoNOS family of measures?
This introductory e-learning comprises of three modules that aim to assist clinicians to understand and use HoNOS family measures. The modules should be being particularly useful for HoNOS family trainers as a way of introducing their clinicians to outcome measurement.

HoNOS refresher training
If you are ready to refresh your HoNOS family of measures knowledge and need to show evidence of your refresher training then our refresher e-learning module is right for you.
The module can be completed for each of the HoNOS measures. The training is scenario-based, with written vignettes, case notes and videos. You need to complete two scenarios, followed by a quiz. It will take about 40 minutes, and can be done in more than one sitting.
You can download a certificate after successfully completing the e-learning module.
You will also get a reminder every two years when you are due to refresh your HoNOS training.

HoNOS train the trainer workshops
Te Pou offers training for people to become outcome trainers within their organisation using a train the trainer model. You can find out more about this approach in the outcomes training model and guide.
The train the trainer programme has three components to it:
1. Part A: Train the trainer two-day foundational outcomes training course.
2. Part B: Train the trainer one-day specific training in:
- HoNOS outcome measure
- HoNOSCA outcome measure
- HoNOS65+ outcome measure
- HoNOS-secure outcome measure
- HoNOS-LD outcome measure
3. Refresher training must be completed every two years. It is now available as an e-learning module.
Trainers need a certificate in Part A and B to be able to train others.
Online train the trainer workshops
Te Pou is providing virtual training for those who want to be HoNOS family trainers (the HoNOS family includes: HoNOS, HoNOS 65+, HoNOSCA, HoNOS LD and HoNOS secure).
This condensed national three-module training will equip clinicians with the necessary skills and knowledge to become HoNOS trainers within their own DHB or service. The training is open to any mental health clinician in NZ who would like to be a trainer.
To become a trainer, participants need to complete modules 1, 2 and 3. Modules 1 and 3 are more general and relate to the full family of measures. Module 2 is specific to one measure within the HoNOS family.
Each training module is free to attend. You must register for each module separately.
