About the team
The Intellectual Disability Service (IDS) is part of the Specialist Mental Health Services based at Wakari Hospital. The IDS comprises of three parts, Ward 10a - a 12 bed inpatient service, Helensburgh Cottage - a 4 bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and the Community Liaison Team. You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team comprising of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Mental Health Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists.
About the role/About you
We are looking for a positive and confident registered nurse who has the drive and enthusiasm to motivate staff and engage them in their clinical development; you will be a respected professional in your own right, and an exceptional team member with strong communication skills.
The role will provide Nursing and Operational support, leadership and management primarily to Nursing staff on Helensburgh Cottage with an expectation of being available to provide input and advice to all members of the clinical team as required.
The role will also deputise for the Charge Nurse Manager where and when required.
The role will serve to model mental health nursing care based on theoretical knowledge and experience of acute mental health along with an ability to work with and supervise Nurses and Health Care Assistants.
There is also an expectation to continually develop one's own knowledge and skill to enhance practice and contribution to the team on ward 10a.
You will also be involved in maintaining the ongoing development of ward programmes within a SafeWards framework.
In addition to your Registered Nurse qualifications and registration (Active APC) the successful applicant will be Level Four (expert) (or working towards) on the Southern District Health Board Professional Development Programme. In addition to your nursing qualifications you will also have post graduate qualifications (relevant to mental health), at a minimum a diploma, but preferably a master’s degree (or working towards one).
