About the teams

Ward 11 based at Wakari Hospital is an open 16 bed inpatient facility with a dedicated staff. The service caters to clients that have been assessed as requiring a period further of assessment, investigations, and/or interventions following a period of inpatient stay in one of the acute admission wards.

The resource team consists of staff that are allocated on a shift-by-shift basis to an area where the need is greatest.

About the role / About you

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced and skilled Registered Nurse to join the Ward 11 team in the Charge Nurse Manager role along with the Nursing Resource team.

The successful applicant will demonstrate high levels of clinical skill. They will show a clear understanding of the principles underpinning mental health and addiction assessment and treatment and provide effective management and strong but collaborative leadership to the team. Previous management and clinical leadership experience are desirable but not essential.

Key accountabilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Clinical leadership of the service - fostering a culture that strives for excellence in clinical service provision within allocated resources
  • Service Planning and Delivery - leading and managing the service to provide efficient and effective services, and participating in and leading service planning
  • Staff Management and Recruitment - Developing a cohesive and productive team
  • Financial Management of the service
  • Quality and risk management of the service

The Charge Nurse Manager will be a Registered Nurse, with a current APC - and have a minimum of five years recent experience in working within a mental health sector, with the ability to practice in New Zealand; will have a relevant postgraduate qualification (a minimum of a post grad diploma), and proven success in leadership in the health-related environment, which will complement their experience in, and knowledge of clinical quality, safety, and best practice.

Due to the natural challenges that come with a position that sees you, managing staff, across a range of professional disciplines it is essential that you have exceptional communication and conflict resolution skills in this role. You must be IT savvy and enjoy the coordination of individuals and groups.
