About the team
The service comprises a 13 bedded medium secure Inpatient unit and a community services that provides consultation and liaison with the Courts, Prisons, Justice Services and follow up treatment for community clients. Clients are between ages of 17 and 65 years and may be charged with or alleged to have committed a criminal offence and have a known or suspected mental illness.
The role/about you
This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Community Forensic Mental Health team based at Wakari Hospital on a part-time basis.
The role comprises case management and intensive work with people experiencing severe enduring mental illness to develop skills for their transition to the community. This includes (but not limited to) assessing, evaluating and modifying structured weekly plans to facilitate client's functioning in the community.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist with previous experience of working in the mental health sector. You will have well developed and proven group facilitation and communication skills and be an effective time-manager. Previous experience with court processes and violence risk assessment and treatment would be beneficial although ongoing training and education will be given to the successful candidate on forensic-specific issues.
In this role you will require good time management skills to enable your assessment, planning, and delivery of effective clinical psychology interventions for consumers/tangata whaiora. You will have a passion for supporting people with mental illness, be able to participate in individual and group therapies and contribute actively to the multi-disciplinary team. Ensuring the continued well-being of consumers/tangata whaiora will see you liaising extensively with other clinical psychologists within the organisation to facilitate both inpatient and outpatient care.

To be considered for this role you must be a Registered Clinical Psychologist with the NZ Psychologist's Board, hold a current practising certificate and New Zealand driver's licence to apply for this role.
