Clinical Psychologist - Specialist Eating Disorder Service and Midland Region Expert Eating Disorder Hub

Where you’ll be working: Community Mental Health, 193 London Street, Hamilton

The details: Permanent – 80 hours per fortnight

We are in the exciting position to be advertising for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Specialist Eating Disorders Service.

The Waikato Specialist Eating Disorders Service (SEDS) is a small multi-disciplinary team that provides service delivery for clients (adult, and child & adolescent) who have complex and severe eating disorders and their families. The team provides specialised eating disorders treatment incorporating both mental health and physical health.

We are looking for a registered Clinical Psychologist with a current annual practicing certificate, who:

• Brings experience in working with clients with eating disorders or has an interest in this field.

• Demonstrates advanced clinical care, utilizing evidence based best practice.

• Is a team player and can work collaboratively with a range of disciplines.

• Is compassionate, passionate and committed to this field of work.

As the successful candidate you will be part of the Specialist Eating Disorder Service contributing to:

• Clinical contact with service users and their families providing assessment, therapy and consultation

• Liaison, advice and consultation with other multi-disciplinary teams, inpatient teams (medical and psychiatric) and primary health providers

• Providing consultation, training and education programmes to staff and clients, their families and their community throughout the Midland DHB area.

You will be prepared to undertake further specialist Eating Disorder training.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder and consequently carry high risk. The work with this client population can be challenging and frustrating (as well as very rewarding). Clinicians need to be able to sit with anxieties and be aware of potential boundary violations / issues, and transference / counter-transference issues. Clinicians should have the maturity and insight to recognise the limitation of their own knowledge and willingness to develop that where possible.
