Clinical Psychologist - Youth Forensic Inpatient Team

Location: Porirua, Wellington

Contract: Permanent Full Time/Part time negotiable

Service: Nga Taiohi - Youth Forensic Inpatient Team

About the role:

You will be responsible for facilitating the delivery of a range of psychological services for young offenders and their families.The work scope includes assessment, brief interventions with rangatahi and their families and consultancy with other services. It may also include the preparation of reports for the Youth Courts. Additionally, the Clinical Psychologist is expected to provide a range of other services to support the development and function of their teams and the organisation as a whole. This includes case consultation, staff training and supervision, leadership and involvement in service development activities, and research and evaluation-related activities.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
  • Registration with NZ Psychologist Board, with Clinical Psychology Vocational Scope of Practice
  • Post registration education/learning and experience relevant to the specialty area of child and youth mental health is desirable
  • Current APC

About Nga Taiohi:

Located about 20 minutes away from central Wellington, in Porirua, is Nga Taiohi, our new state of the art, national secure youth forensic, bicultural 10 bedded unit which opened in April 2016. This is the first national inpatient service for young offenders with acute severe mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues. This secure forensic unit is co-located with our existing Acute Youth Mental Health Inpatient Unit (Rangatahi) and the Youth Intellectual Disability (ID) Inpatient Unit (Hikitia Te Wairua) collectively known as the ‘The Youth Centre for Excellence’ at Kenepuru Hospital. This new service is part of Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAID) 3DHB.

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. CCDHB operates two hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kapiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.
