Community Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker - Homelessness Team

The details: Permanent – 80 hours per fortnight


Exciting opportunity for an experienced qualified mental health clinician (Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker) to be a member of a new community service working in partnership with a Kaupapa Māori Community Housing Provider to enable whānau with complex needs to transfer from the Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre to independent accommodation.

The team will provide an intensive case management approach to support whānau to reintegrate to community, sustain independent living and improve health and wellbeing. Due to the client complexity there may be a need on occasion to work flexible hours.

Access to decent and affordable housing is one of the major challenges of current times, and is even more difficult for our vulnerable Māori whānau who also experiencing the debilitating effects of serious mental illness and associated stigma. Required skills & experience:

• experience of community MH and/or AoD practice

• Interest in Te Ao Māori and Tikanga practice and partnership approach

• Solution based, person centred, strength based approach

• Team player

• Excellent communication skills

• Networking skills

• Knowledge of Housing First type philosophy

• Strong risk assessment skill.

• Experienced in community MH crisis work.

• Excellent organisational and documentation skills

• Willingness to engage in practical tasks and get your hands dirty
