Community Support Worker - Kumeu/Huapai

This is a 36 hour/week Permanent Part-Time position with our Home Support service in North-West Auckland in Huapai (near Kumeƫ). Shifts will be from Thursday - Monday each week.

In partnership with families, our Home Support staff help people towards living their lives of choice. In this role, you will be providing 1:1 support for a young man who has an intellectual disability, autism and epilepsy. He may not always use words, but can communicate in other ways and direct you to the things that he wants. You will be providing 1:1 support within the family home and on trips into the community, where he generally uses a wheelchair. You will be confident managing complex behaviours and occasionally assisting with personal cares if needed.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Full Driver's Licence
  • Experience supporting people with disabilities and/or challenging behaviours
  • The ability to communicate effectively with your colleagues and the people you support (including effective use of technology/computer skills)
  • The empathy and willingness to support people with daily living tasks, personal cares, goals, dreams and aspirations
  • To be fit enough for a moderately active role
