Cultural Support Worker - Takanga a Fohe Pacific Mental Health Services (WDHB13208)

Takanga A Fohe is a Pasifika cultural/clinical service within the Waitemata DHB Specialist Mental Health and Addictions Service Group. We provide clinical treatment in mental health and addictions with Pasifika cultural values and concepts approach.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person to work alongside consumers recovering from mental illness. We are seeking an individual who will inspire, encourage, have excellent interpersonal skills and a ‘can do’ attitude for our Malaga Cultural Team

Your role will include connecting and working in partnership with NGOs/external agencies to provide connected care for consumers and their families, coordinating meaningful activities, encouraging client participation, assisting with daily tasks, and supporting individuals to set and achieve their recovery goals. Further assisting in gaining and maintaining social, health, education, fanau and cultural reconnection is required.

Excellent communication and networking skills with the ability to build and sustain working relationships with our consumers, staff and external agencies is essential. Previous professional experience in the mental health field is desirable.

  • Ability to speak one of Pasifika languages and understanding of Pasifka cultural practices
  • A level 4 or other relevant qualification in mental health is also desirable but not essential. Otherwise, there is an expectation that you will be willing to start working towards obtaining a level 4 mental health qualification after your first year of employment.
  • A full and clean driver’s license and computer skills are essential
