Do you thrive in an environment where you can be part of shaping something new? Are you looking for a start-up role that will have a positive impact on the lives of all people in Aotearoa New Zealand?

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission opened its doors on 9 February 2021 to bring leadership and oversight to the transformation of our mental health and addiction system, and to contribute to better and equitable mental health and wellbeing outcomes for all people in Aotearoa.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will lead the monitoring, provision of advice, and promotion of improved mental health and addiction services that will drive improved outcomes for people.

This will be done through the development of our monitoring framework, He Ara Āwhina, which will assess and report on mental health services and addiction services and on the effectiveness of approaches to mental health and wellbeing.

This will involve considerable input from Māori, people with lived experience of mental distress and addiction, and the mental health and addiction service sector. In leading this significant piece of work, you will drive the establishment of strong collaborative relationships across the mental health and addiction sector and with tāngata whaiora/people with lived experience and whānau to ensure their voices are reflected in the framework.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • extensive senior strategic experience in mental health and addiction service management
  • a high level of credibility and respect across the mental health and addiction sectors and the ability to influence sector outcomes
  • deep knowledge of applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori and a Te Ao Māori world view to monitoring and improving services
  • substantive experience working with tāngata whaiora/people with lived experience and whānau
  • experience in the establishment and embedding of measurement and evaluation frameworks, systems, and processes on a national level
  • strong knowledge of Te Ao Māori and tikanga as it relates to lived experience communities.

This is a great time to join our small team and contribute to improving wellbeing in Aotearoa, particularly for Māori and our priority population groups.

As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi-grounded organisation, we are committed to fulfilling our responsibility as an independent Crown Entity to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and work in partnership with Māori as tangata whenua.

We want our workforce to be a reflection of our communities across Aotearoa and are actively seeking applications from people who represent that diversity.
