Ko wai te whānau nei – Who is Community Connections?
Community Connections – Te Hāpori Āwhina Tāngata is a community based disability support provider operating across much of the North Island and offering supported living, Te Pou Hononga services (24/7 support for people who require a specialised level of support), supported employment and work transition services, and peer support groups.
They are committed to a person-centred approach based on the principles of Enabling Good Lives, which works in partnership with disabled people and their families/whānau to enable each person to live the life they choose within their own community.
Mō te tūranga – About the role
Reporting to the Chief Executive, you’ll be accountable for the overall provision and quality of services within the Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Manawatū and Levin. This includes the wellbeing of people Community Connections supports, staff, contract management and meeting financial performance goals.
You will focus on the management of existing services as well as leading transformation, while also planning and implementing future development. As a pivotal member of the senior management team, you will contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the organisation and ensure that the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi are upheld across all services.
This is an exciting opportunity to make an important contribution to Community Connections’ future, as part of a supportive team where you’ll work alongside like-minded individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the community they support.
The role can be based in Hawkes Bay, Palmerston North, or Wellington region.

- A successful track record of senior leadership within the health and disability or social services sector
- A commitment to the Enabling Good Lives principles and being an ally for disabled people
- Experience in developing and leading cohesive teams and in managing geographically dispersed teams
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of success in building and maintaining exceptional stakeholder relationships
- Well-developed business acumen, with the ability to interpret, apply and understand key financial indicators to make effective business decisions
- A strategic and visionary thinker with experience in change management and implementing innovative and new models of support
- Consultative and open style with a ‘no surprises’ approach
- A full driver's licence and the ability to commit to regular travel around the region
