Emerge Aotearoa is a social services organisation providing a range of services to whānau, including Health and Disability, Youth and Transitional Housing. Our kaimahi all have a common goal - helping people realise their potential with the aim of supporting whānau to live their best life as independently as possible.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people and their families?

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to join our Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) Alcohol and Drug team at Emerge Aotearoa. We are seeking a registered health professional with a background in AOD counselling, social work, occupational therapy, or nursing. MST is a highly successful, evidence-based programme targeting anti-social behaviour in young people aged 12-17 who live at home with family, extended family, or long-term caregivers.

In this role, you will provide intensive, wrap-around services to youth and their whānau over 3-5 months, addressing challenging behaviours such as aggression, non-compliance, school difficulties, substance use, and offending.

You will need to work flexible hours to fit in with family needs (e.g. evening meetings) and be able to participate in afterhours on-call roster.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity, working 40 hours per week. This role will be based in Masterton.

Duties of the role could include but not limited to

  • Engage and collaborate with all keys parties to ensure barriers are identified and overcome, and that throughout treatment there is buy-in and cooperation.
  • Develop and provide treatment and intervention plans using the MST analytic process including outcome review and strategy revision.
  • Participate in providing on call services to MST clients.
  • Provide clinical treatment using methods compatible with MST principles and practices.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities and teams including review, audit, best practice and/or improvement initiatives.

He kōrero mōu | About You

The team is engaging, motivated, creative, and brings a lot of fun and laughter to their great mahi—whatever it takes. You will be committed to strength-based practice and must have a background in AOD counselling, social work, or psychology, and be registered with your professional body. You will have knowledge of the MST model and be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of behavior modification and cognitive behavioral therapy, along with experience in engaging with families. A strong knowledge base regarding risk factors for youth offending and substance misuse is essential. A sense of humor, a commitment to your own well-being and a willingness to go the extra mile are a 'must-have'.

You will need:

  • Current full registration with a professional body covered by HPCA 2003 Act, Social Work Registration, or DAAPANZ.
  • Experience working with youth/challenging behavior is preferred.
  • Willing to learn and implement all aspects of the MST treatment programme and MST model and must be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of behavior modification and cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence
  • The right to work in New Zealand.
