We are now looking for an enthusiastic and resilient person to utilise their personal experience in recovery as a full-time permanent Peer Support Specialist within the AODTC team.
Based at our community hub in New Lynn, this non-clinical position operates Monday to Friday and requires you to build relationships with clients progressing through the life-changing AODTC programme.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have
- Personal lived experience, a story of recovery from addictions and the ability to as a positive role model to others (essential)
- Strong cultural competencies particularly in working with Māori
- Assertive communication and active listening skills
- An ability to utilise critical thinking and proactively engage in organisational support
- A willingness to hang in there when the going gets tough
- A willingness to embrace change and learn
- A positive and encouraging demeanour with a good sense of humour
- The ability to work in an ethical framework with strong boundaries
- Comfortability working in criminal justice settings including open court and prisons
- Completed peer support training of some description and/or experience working in a peer position
- The ability to work flexible hours as part of a supportive team
- Excellent computer skills, particularly email, data entry and word processing
- An ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Be able to legally drive in New Zealand without restriction
In return we offer:
- $58,988 to $66,497 salary per annum (depending on your relevant qualifications and experience)
- $2000 annual location allowance and a weekly meal allowance
- 22 days annual leave, 5 days paid study leave per annum

We are partnered with Higher Ground and The Salvation Army to provide addiction treatment services to the Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Court (AODTC) pilot based in the Auckland and Waitakere District Courts. The AODTC aims to reduce offending by addressing participants’ alcohol and other drug related issues.
