Support a spirited, neuro divergent teen to have awesome Summertime adventures across Tāmaki Makaurau, participate in group activities and build on his Māuitanga super power!

• Based in West Auckland, Tāmaki Makaurau.
• Varied hours
• Wage based on the care and support workers’ pay equity settlement dependant on experience and qualifications, plus mileage when transporting whānau you awhi (the person you support). Public holiday rates also apply.
• Must have a full driver licence and safe and legal vehicle.

We are looking for at least two skilled Pouāwhina (personal assistants) who can work together to support a young, autistic person to have exciting experiences and live his life to the fullest.

In this role, you’ll be supporting a spirited 13-year-old over the Summer holidays to get out and about, have adventures and participate in group activities with other young people. You will support him to build on his talents and interests in making and tinkering (like taking apart and rebuilding computers). He is active, curious, inquisitive, and a bit of a trickster - just like Māui Tikitiki a Taranga!

The hours are varied but approximately include:

• four hours each weekend;
• two hours after school during term time; and
• up to six hours per day, Monday-Friday during the school holidays.

As a minimum, you will need to:

• Be consistent and reliable.
• Be fit and active for doing lots of outdoor activities (and thwarting the odd Houdini attempt).
• Have some skills or an interest in making, building, creating and tinkering with hard materials and machinery.
• Have some experience with neuro diverse peoples, such as helping them with social cues, understanding triggers etc.
• Have a full driver licence and a safe, tidy and legal car to take him to activities (mileage is paid).
