Poumanaaki - Te Waka Hauora - Wairau

Permanent, full-time position working in the Marlborough community

  • Make a real difference by providing cultural and social support to patients and their whānau
  • Support bicultural education of our staff

Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)

Nelson Marlborough Health's (NMH's) Māori Health and Vulnerable Populations Team, Te Waka Hauora, has a permanent, full-time position available for a Poumanaaki - Māori Cultural Support Worker, within the Māori Health Service team.

The role will be diverse in nature as you will provide cultural and social support to patients and whānau that are admitted to our hospital. The role will also focus on supporting bicultural education of our hospital staff and also support wider community based projects or programmes being run in our communities by the Māori Health team.

Nelson Marlborough Health (NMH) is building a centre of excellence in regards to Māori Health. This role will support that journey.

Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)

While fluency in Te Reo is advantageous, applicants with a basic understanding of Te Reo Māori will be considered, as we can support development in the Māori language within our workplace. A background in health, social services, or the like, would be desirable, but again - is not essential.

Having an established understanding and network of our local Māori communities would be an asset. The ability to work as a member of a team will be essential. While we welcome applicants of all ages, we do encourage rangatahi/youth to apply for this position as part of our commitment to invest in our younger generations.

For the health and safety of both staff and patients, and in line with the Health Order, all NMH staff are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
