Practice Lead

We’re looking for our next inspirational leader to join our Pathways’ team as a Practice Lead. This is an exciting role during an exciting time. You will be reporting to the Business Operations Manager and be a part of a dynamic team which adds value and influences nationally by helping to bring our powerful organisational purpose to life.

The Role

At the heart of this role, you will focus on building the practice capability of our greatest asset, our people! You’ll lead out many programmes that build the ability of all our staff to practice at the top of their scope. This will include workforce development, building and sharing evidence based practices, leading evaluation and development and implementing projects. Personally, you will have a commitment to self-development and be comfortable managing complex systems and situations.

This is a full-time position, working 8.00am – 4.30pm, Monday – Friday. The role can be based in either our Auckland, Wellington or Hamilton office.

In your role you will work with integrity and authenticity to provide organisation wide leadership of the strategies that assist us to continually improve our practices and to achieve or strategic objectives. This role requires the ability to develop and implement programmes with a particular focus on emerging workforces and practices such as peer, AOD, youth, trauma informed care, lifespan development and community development. With a keen interest in using evidence based practices you will also be responsible for helping build practice-based evidence through the organisation and completion of evaluation and research activities.


You’ll have the highest verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of contemporary influences in mental health and wellbeing, and the ability to influence and work in collaboration with others. You will be an experienced and effective practitioner, leader and have experiences in the implementation of projects. As a natural networker you’ll develop close relationships with important stakeholders both internal to Pathways and Real and external across the health and wellbeing sector.

Naturally, you’ll be a project management whiz, consistently achieving results and delivering projects which align to Pathways goals on time and within budget. You’ll use best practice methodologies to ensure the successful implementation of projects and you won’t be phased by competing demands. Engaging people and developing great relationships will be a strength of yours thanks to your genuine interest in people, great listening skills and proactive communication.

You’ll have a passion for workforce, learning and development and evidence based practice and be a role model in this space. You’ll also have knowledge of relevant influences, theories and best-practice approaches to contemporary mental health and wellbeing service provision. Plus, you’ll hold a relevant tertiary qualification and have at least five years’ relevant experience in mental health and addiction services.
