Registered Nurse – Acute Mental Health Clinical Coach

Te Awhina is a 12-bed acute and intensive admission ward in the grounds of Whanganui Hospital. The ward caters primarily for adults however beds are available for young persons and for older adults. The ward is divided into acute or intensive beds based on needs, status in terms of the MH(CaT)Act 1992 and acuity. There is an active seclusion and restraint minimisation approach and an emphasis on pro-equity and engagement with our tangata whai ora and whanau.

As part of a refresh of the process of recruitment and retention of psychiatric Nurses, Te Awhina has decided on a ‘grow our own’ approach and as one aspect of this we offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to work as a clinical coach. This role will see the successful candidate supporting nurses, including new graduates and nurses in training to further develop as confident, competent nurses.

The ideal candidate should be curious, culturally adept, have an excellent knowledge base and with critical thinking, assessment and problem-solving skills. They must be able to function as a role model and motivator while providing a supportive environment to advance foundations of knowledge and skills that enhance evidence-based decisions in clinical practice.

To assist you in your decision making, our key success factors are:

- Registered Nurse with NZ Nursing Council

- Current practicing certificate

- Recent and relevant acute clinical adult mental health experience

- Teaching and learning experience or the ability to teach and coach primary psychiatric skills

- Expert practitioner with a master’s degree (or working towards one)

- Technically competent with core treatment practice

If you think you have these skills or see this as a fantastic opportunity, we would like too here from you.
