About the role

We are looking for Registered Nurses who would like to join our Inpatient Mental Health team in Wāhi Oranga at Nelson Hospital.

You will be joining a great team passionate about mental health and delivering a high standard of care. Our service provides inpatient care for acute through to rehabilitation. You will preferably have mental health experience and ideally have post graduate qualifications suitable to this practice area.

We have three positions available

Positions one and two:

  • 12-month fixed-term, full-time, positions working a four days on two days off roster to assist the nursing load as a result of a complex patient (1.0FTE 80 hours a fortnight).

Position three:

  • a temporary part-time position working a three days on, three days off roster for up to 12 months covering parental leave (0.75FTE 60 hours a fortnight).

About you

It's essential that you have NZNC registration and practising certificate, with no conditions that exclude mental health scope of practice.

Required skills and knowledge include:

  • well-developed interpersonal skills
  • willingness to work across the mental health inpatient continuum.

Knowledge of the following:

  • Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act, 1992
  • PPPR Act - Welfare Guardian
  • Sensory Modulation Principles in Mental Health
  • Mental status examinations and risk assessments
