Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Can you bring significant experience in the mental health setting with strong assessment, psychological intervention and risk management skills? Are you interested in working within a multidisciplinary team, who fosters the ability to work holistically & innovatively to improve the wellbeing of our tauira (students)? If so, the University of Waikato could be your next career move.

As Registered Nurse, Mental Health & Wellbeing, you will be a key point of contact for students experiencing concerns with their mental health and wellness. You will work individually with students using a solution-focused approach and a range of interventions to improve wellbeing, develop coping and self-management strategies to enable support student wellness, retention and success.

Along with expertise in assessment, case management and crisis intervention, you will also contribute to preventative, educational and other innovative approaches to improve the mental health & wellbeing of students and the broader University of Waikato community.

Salary will be in the range of $71,037 to $100,067 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus. Some travel to our Tauranga campus may be required.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

You will have an appreciation of models of wellbeing from a range of cultures as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work in our diverse environment. In addition, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • New Zealand Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with a current annual practicing certificate
  • A postgraduate qualification in mental health nursing & formal education and experience in delivering psychological interventions is preferred

We are expanding our Mental Health and Wellbeing team and services, and we are looking for a registered nurse with mental health speciality. This is a permanent, continuing role within our team.

You will be part of a cohesive health team that includes Registered Nurses Mental Health & Wellbeing, Counsellors, a Social Worker, Alcohol & other Drug Clinician, Health Care Assistants, Health Promotion and Violence Prevention Coordinators, General Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Prescribers, Practice Nurses, a Chaplain, and Administrators.
