Our Purpose: Why we do it

When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you’re part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.

The Team: What we do

The Psychiatric Service for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities (PSAID) Inpatient Unit, is a specialist mental health service based at Hillmorton Hospital that provides assessment and treatment options tailored to the needs of intellectually disabled people. Nurses work alongside other specialist staff in a multidisciplinary team, to craft packages of care that enable consumers to learn new skills and ways of managing their illness so that they can return home, be part of their community and lead a good life. Be part of a team that has celebrated success through comprehensive transition pathways back to community care.

The Role: Where you fit in

The Intellectually Disabled Persons Health (IDPH) Service is seeking an enthusiastic Registered Nurse with mental health experience, highly developed interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellence, to work in our PSAID Inpatient team.

Ideally you will have experience working with Intellectual Disability, however candidates with an interest in the area and motivation to learn new skills would also be considered. You will need a mental health scope of practice to be able to work in this field.

The service is after nurses who are responsible, have mature attitudes, and someone who is open to learn and develop in what can be challenging work. You will work both one-on-one with consumers with complex needs, develop and support them in their treatment plans, and participate and be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.

These positions require a current full NZ driver’s license.

There is a:

0.94 FTE, Registered Nurse role (until 17/09/2021)
