Registered Nurses - Tupuna

Permanent (full time and part time) & fixed term positions available for Registered Nurses with a background in mental health

Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope of practice.

Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a cohesive Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Our Purpose: Why we do it

When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you’re part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.

The Team: What we do

Tupuna is a 15 bed Extended Care inpatient unit on the Hillmorton Hospital. We provide mental, complex physical and medical health care for consumers from 25 – 65 years of age. Consumers transferring to Tupuna come from the four adult inpatient acute inpatient units on the Hillmorton site. This is due to the consumer requiring further hospital treatment, before moving home or to the community. Our multidisciplinary team includes Hospital aids; Registered and Enrolled Nurses; Consultant Psychiatrist; Occupational Therapist; Pukenga Atawhai, Psychologist and a Social Worker. Our aim is to work in collaboration and partnership with consumers and family/whanau, to develop therapeutic, supportive and empowering relationships with consumers, to enable them to leave hospital and live successfully in the community.

The Role: Where you fit in

There are permanent, full time (0.94 FTE) Registered Nurse positions available

Permanent part time (0.7 FTE) Registered Nurse position available

X1 full time, fixed term role (ending October, 2021), also available for a Registered Nurse.

These positions would suit motivated nurses who have, or who would like to develop their psychiatric and medical skills, within a supportive team environment. Good communication, interpersonal and documentation skills, along with a compassionate nature will see you excel in this area.

The positions are based on a rotating roster (i.e. 4 days on, 2 days off for 0.94 FTE, or 2 days on, 4 days off for 0.47 FTE), thus flexibility across all shifts - morning, afternoon, and night shifts - is imperative. A comprehensive staff orientation package is provided.

Previous Mental health experience is essential.

If you have a current NZ Registered Nursing Practising Certificate that includes a scope of practice for Mental Health, then this could be the new career challenge for you.
