Speed Freaks Peer Navigator - part time 2 positions

Speed Freaks Charitable Trust was established in 2021 supporting recovery from addiction and mental distress through the vehicle of running and walking.

Our programme is delivered by local volunteer coaches and peers supported by our team in residential, day and community settings.

The Speed Freaks kaupapa grows health and well-being, community connection, inclusion, participation and paying it forward.

12 months fixed term.

The peer roles are key to our pilot. Your lived experience of addiction recovery and the power of movement will inspire others to attend our groups and support volunteer coaches as we launch in central Wellington.

Working with a second Peer Navigator led by a Programme Coordinator, and North Island Development Manager you will grow our groups and community linking with parkrun and events as we establish.

The development of the Speed Freaks Charity is driven by our participants, coaches and community, as a young charity this requires a flexible and considered approach to issues and opportunities as they arise.rise.

You will need;

  • Passion, positivity and a solution focused approach.
  • Preferably Level 4 National Certificate of Health & Wellbeing or higher qualification.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Confident use of IT for documentation, reporting and communication. Including smart phone apps.
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth.
  • Excellent boundaries.
  • Hold a full NZ Drivers License
  • Access to vehicle & ability to use for work travel.
  • 20 hours flexible. Hours dependent on groups and peer support. Majority office hours with some flexibility for Events and Parkrun.

Duties will include;

  • Establish rapport with tangata whai ora, whanau, and local networks.
  • Provide additional support to weekly run/ walking groups in all settings.
  • Provide encouragement and support participants to achieve their goals.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, local and national, bring creative responses to hurdles and work together in support of our kaupapa.
  • Working alongside Programme Cooordinator in delivery of presentations, information stands and growing an understanding of Speed Freaks impact and outcomes.
  • Ensure all records are maintained to a high standard and policy and procedures are adhered to.
