The role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

We're seeking a new team member for an awake night shift position at our acute mental health crisis respite service, located in a beautiful villa in Nelson. This facility offers 24-hour care and supports individuals experiencing mental health distress that prevents them from staying in their home environment. You will play a vital role in providing short-term crisis respite support.

The shift is Sunday and Monday, awake nights working from 11pm – 7.30am in Nelson. We also provide a meal for staff working on the awake night shift.

Your main focus will be working alongside individuals in the night to support their recovery and enhance their wellbeing.

You’ll also

  • Focusing on the individuals needs and providing culturally safe practice
  • Relevant administrative tasks, comprehensive notes and effective handover, and supporting and collaborating with your colleagues
  • You’ll need to be prepared to support our clients to do whatever it takes using a recovery model
  • While the people you support are asleep, you will be kept busy with other tasks like cleaning and supporting the day shifts with maintaining things like filing, first aid kits, emergency kits and preparation of paperwork.

About You | Mōu

For this role, you must hold a Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or an equivalent qualification, or be currently working towards it). To check equivalency go to You should also have the ability to provide medication support with meticulous attention to detail. Additionally, you should align with our commitment to a recovery-focused approach.

You’ll have:

  • New Zealand Certificate Level 4 in Health and Wellbeing (or a recognised equivalent).
  • A full New Zealand drivers licence
  • You must hold a current comprehensive first aid certificate or be willing to obtain one.
