Support Worker - Awake Night Shift

This role is working in our forensic residential service supporting people within the mental health sector on their journey from inpatient services to living in the community.

We have 2 roles available, either Sunday to Tuesday, or Friday and Saturday. Both roles are 11pm – 7.30am awake night shifts, based in Christchurch. Let us know in your cover letter if you have a preference for either role.

Your main focus will be working alongside individuals in the evening to support their recovery, enhance their wellbeing, and help them live a meaningful life. This could involve tasks like assisting with meal preparation and cleaning up. It's all about making a positive difference in their lives while you enjoy the night-time schedule.

You’ll also

  • Focus on the individuals needs and provide culturally safe practice.
  • Complete relevant administrative tasks, take comprehensive notes, provide effective handovers to the next shift, and support and collaborate with your colleagues.
  • While they are asleep, you will be kept busy with other tasks like cleaning and supporting the day shifts with maintaining things like filing, first aid kits, emergency kits and preparation of paperwork.

You’re a natural when it comes to caring and empathy and understand the power of working in a recovery-focused way, where individuals take charge of their own journey, making you an ideal fit for this role.

You’ll also

  • You must hold the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (NZCHW) or a recognised equivalent.To check equivalency go to https://www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/our-health-system/pay-equity-settlements/care-and-support-workers-pay-equity-settlement/pay-equity-and-qualification-equivalencies
  • hold a current and full drivers licence
  • hold a current comprehensive first aid certificate covering units 6400, 6401 and 6402 or be willing to obtain one within 3 months of employment
  • have knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
