This position is 40 hour per week, Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.30pm based in Tauranga.

About The People’s Project and our team

The People’s Project has a goal to make homelessness in Tauranga rare, brief and non-recurring. We want to end homelessness for every person we work with – so people never have to be homeless again.

Our everyday work is with people in our community who find themselves in the most significant need – sleeping rough and homeless, often with other complex needs. We help them to firstly find suitable, sustainable and affordable housing. Then, our team becomes an enduring support to help people sustain their tenancies and access the wraparound services that are available to them in the wider community for improving their health and wellbeing.

In our team no two days are ever the same! We support and mentor each other to adapt to changing situations as they arise. We are a resilient bunch, and we’re highly supportive of each other in our day-to-day work. We’re experts in what we do, and we happily share our knowledge and skills with the community to address and end homelessness.

About you and your role

You’ll lead a team that is responsible for changing lives. Our work includes sourcing affordable and sustainable housing for people in need, Whanaungatanga (connecting) them with services in the community and providing wrap-around Manaakitanga (support), as required, for as long as it is required, to help them achieve their Tino Rangatiratanga (independence).

Leadership comes naturally to you; you inspire those around you to achieve their best as they pour their energy into meeting the needs of the clients we support. Your open and approachable style means working closely with your team comes easy. As an inspirational leader, providing coaching and helping people identify and achieve their personal development goals fills you with a deep sense of purpose.

In addition, your skills and attributes include:

  • knowledge of the Tauranga health sector, in particular the NGO and community sector
  • basic understanding of Te Tiriti O Waitangi, Reo Māori and Tikanga, with the desire to learn, share and grow in this area
  • a relevant Level 4 qualification in health, management or related fields as outlined in the summary above
  • proven experience in leading a team inspirationally and effectively
  • demonstrated experience in applying the principles of wellness and recovery
  • good physical fitness
  • a current full and clean New Zealand drivers licence
