About the opportunity
Here at Southern DHB we want to ensure our consumers are heard, so we can continue to review and develop the Mental Health Services. To help us do this our Youth Consumer Advisor aims to develop and co-ordinate effective links and networks with relevant consumers (young people up to 20 years of age), community groups and organisations. We now have a vacancy for a part-time (20 hours per week), permanent Youth Consumer Advisor based in Invercargill to join our team.
You'll strive to develop a strong and active consumer voice for young people in the district and support the ongoing development of the Consumer and Family Advisory Group across the Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Directorate. You'll provide feedback to the mental health provider arm management team and clinicians and actively encourage consumer involvement in planning and projects in the provider arm. You'll also support Southern DHB and the community to become more aware of the issues facing young Mental Health consumers.
To be considered for this position you will need to be a confident communicator with strong verbal and written skills. Have an ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people, work well in a team environment and be able to prioritise and organize your work, in addition you need to be able to cope under pressure and while having the drive and commitment to make a difference. To be able to provide excellent service and to relate to our consumers, it would be advantageous if you have had recent experience being a client of mental health services.
It is essential that you have a current, full driver's licence.
