This self-directed learning module helps people achieve the skills for challenging stigma and discrimination.

This skill can be achieved at the esential, practitioner or leader level.

The Real Skill for challenging stigma and discrimination is: Every person working in a mental health and addiction treatment service uses strategies to challenge stigma and discrimination and provides and promotes a valued place for service users.

After doing this module you will be able to:

  • understand the impact of stigma and discrimination on service users, whānau, services and communities
  • understand the impact of language in relation to stigma and discrimination, and use language that is non-judgemental and non-discriminatory
  • recognise and challenge stigma and discrimination.
