Join us for the first in a series of workshops run by Te Pou, Le Va, and Whāraurau.
These workshops are aimed at kaimahi, leaders, and educators across the mental health and addictions sector.
Workshop 1 consists of two sessions that introduce the foundations of trauma-informed practice in Aotearoa | New Zealand:
Session one: Understanding the essentials of a trauma-informed approach in Aotearoa | New Zealand
Presented by Trish Gledhill (Te Pou) and Wendy Kelly (Whāraurau) this session aims to build your understanding of trauma, culturally responsive trauma-informed approaches, and why these matter. You will be introduced to practical strategies that reflect the idea that what you do every day can make a difference.
Session two: Understanding trauma-informed approaches from a Māori perspective
Presented by Stacey Porter (Whāraurau) and Hine Moeke-Murray (Te Kupenga Net Trust), this session explores trauma-informed, therapeutic practices from a Māori perspective. It focuses on safe and culturally grounded ways to engage with young Māori affected by trauma, as well as recognising bias and creating therapeutic spaces where whānau feel safe, seen, protected, and affirmed.
