Employment support in primary care

In 2012 a pilot employment support programme was established in general practices in Hamilton. Further pilots were established in Wellington.

Employment support agency Workwise teamed up with Midlands Health Network, Work and Income and Compass Health to deliver the pilots. It was the first time EBSE or IPS had been applied in primary care in New Zealand.

Te Pou completed a formative evaluation of the programme to assess its feasibility and early outcomes.
Te Pou also completed a process evaluation of the Wellington programme. The evaluations found that integrated employment support can effectively support people with mental health conditions to return to work, and the service is valued by GPs.
