He aha te tūranga - About the role
Our client is a kaupapa Māori, community-based provider supporting individuals and their whānau to achieve oranga through holistic, integrated services. Grounded in tikanga Māori, their mahi spans mental health, addictions, housing, education, employment, and cultural wellbeing. Their commitment is to foster independence, dignity, and inclusivity, underpinned by mātauranga Māori and whānau-centred practice aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
You will work closely with Tangata whaiora experiencing challenges, helping them to navigate recovery through individualised treatment plans, therapeutic engagement, harm reduction strategies, and wraparound support. You will also participate in educational and preventative initiatives to uplift whānau and strengthen community resilience.
- One role will be working within our Te Paerangi service offering an intensive wrap around support approach for tangata whaiora. This service supports tangata whaiora living in West Auckland.
- Two positions sit within a brand-new service situated within Pāremoremo and Wiri. Our mission is to deliver an innovative mātauranga Māori drug and alcohol program, utilising mana and wairua-enhancing, strengths-based Te Ao Māori practices and the principals for our tāne and wahine in remand.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive assessments using evidence-based tools.
- Co-designing and delivering individualised treatment plans with whaiora.
- Providing counselling and therapeutic support through one-on-one and group settings.
- Responding to crises and implementing appropriate interventions.
- Facilitating education and prevention programmes within whānau and community settings.
- Ensuring accurate and timely documentation in the client management system (CMS).
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community agencies.
- Integrating tikanga, Ngā Pou e Waru, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi across all practice.

- DPAANZ recognised applied addiction qualification. Refer: www.dapaanz.org.nz
- Strong understanding of evidence-based practices in addiction treatment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques.
- Empathy, patience, and a commitment to client-centred care.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
Desired:
- DPAANZ registration.
- Knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga (or an openness to learn).
