Use your lived experience to support the recovery of others

At Tui Ora, we believe your lived experience matters. This role is about walking alongside whānau, sharing hope, and showing that recovery is possible.

As an AOD Peer Support Specialist, you’ll use your own journey of recovery to build genuine connections with whānau. You’ll support them to define their own goals, strengthen their wellbeing, and navigate their pathways in a way that works for them.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

In this role, you will:

  • Walk alongside whānau on their recovery journey
  • Use your lived experience to inspire hope and connection
  • Support whānau to identify their own goals and aspirations
  • Advocate for the whānau voice of whaiora within services
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Kia ekena a angitū | To promote success in this role, you will have

  • Lived experience of addiction and recovery (a minimum of two years in recovery and having completed a rehabilitiation programme)
  • A strong foundation in your own wellbeing and recovery supports
  • Ability to build authentic, respectful relationships with whānau
  • Understanding of recovery approaches and whānau-centred practice
  • Willingness to engage in te ao Māori and kaupapa Māori ways of working
  • A full, clean NZ Driver Licence.

It’s a bonus if you have (or have a willingness to obtain):

  • Peer Support Training
  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4)
  • Hold registration with DAPAANZ
  • Knowledge of Māori models of health and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
