Auckland DHB is one of the latest DHBs to endorse Equally Well. Dr Kristin Good, director of primary care in the mental health and addictions directorate, is a great champion for addressing these issues.
Kristin chairs the ADHB Primary and Secondary Integration Group, whom the Equally Well backbone team met with recently to present on the findings from the evidence review and to share with them what action is happening across the country.
Claire Moore, service user lead for Emerge Aotearoa, is also passionate about the work of Equally Well. Claire shared her story with the group, creating some powerful insights into the experience of a person receiving care from secondary mental health services and how diagnostic overshadowing can affect clinicians' abilities to listen empathically.
One of Kristin’s hopes for the group is to take inspiration from HeAL (Healthy Active Lives) by putting these targets into practice for people developing psychosis, to ensure that no one’s physical health deteriorates when they have contact with mental health and addiction services.
