Using HoNOS/HoNOS65+/HoNOSCA to enhance outcomes for tangata whai ora/motuhake and their whanau: Principles to guide practice

The aim of this document is to guide practice in relation to using the HoNOS/HoNOS 65+/HoNOSCA to enhance outcomes for tangata whai ora/motuhake and their whānau. The focus is on the utility of outcome measurement for enhancing outcomes for tāngata whai ora/motuhake and their whānau, through informing recovery planning.

Although the principles developed here have been designed specifically in relation to tāngata whai ora and their whānau, the underlying principles also have general applicability to all consumers/service users.

It describes the six principles to guide practice:

  1. Effective engagement
  2. Correct identification of ethnicity
  3. Utilising key people
  4. Specific issues impacting on ratings
  5. Interrelationships between items to enhance outcomes
  6. Information Analysis, Interpretation and Utility.
