Sheridan Pooley

CADS Regional Consumer Advisor

Sheridan has been involved with AOD services since the 1980s including volunteering at NZ’s first needle exchange. She has been consumer advisor at CADS Auckland since 2001, where she has built a small (but perfectly formed) consumer team to coordinate effective consumer participation in the strategic planning, development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of all CADS services.

Since 2012 she has with her team focused on supporting the development of recovery oriented systems. This includes building the infrastructure to support the embedding of peer support roles into CADS clinical teams.

Sheridan is passionate about supporting the system and services to make space for people with lived and living experience (PWLE) to have a meaningful voice and presence. She is engaged in quality assurance and improvement activities at both local and national levels, and for several years has been involved in auditing opioid treatment services.

Sheridan is chair of the Addiction Consumer Leadership Group another (perfectly formed) team of AOD consumers committed to ensuring services are responsive to the needs of people with alcohol and other drug issues.

Sheridan used her lived experience of opioid dependence and treatment to complete a Master of Arts thesis "In another Vein: The Social Consequences of Methadone Maintenance Treatment."
