Starting out in the field of addiction mahi can be both rewarding and challenging. If you are a new addiction practitioner (first two years of practice) and looking to build confidence, share experiences, and grow alongside others, a Community of Practice offers a supportive space to do so. Through regular discussions, resource sharing, and collaborative problem-solving, you’ll deepen your understanding of practice, strengthen your professional identity, and feel more connected to the addiction workforce.

The purpose of this community is to bring together new addiction practitioners with a common interest to learn and solve problems in specific areas relating to their addiction mahi. Areas explored in 2025 included: Motivational Interviewing, withdrawal support and collaborative note writing.

The communities are built on trust, confidentiality, collaborative learning, common goals, personal and professional development, respect, equitable participation, shared responsibility, exploration, and knowledge sharing and upheld by Te Tiriti principles.
