Welcome to our monthly lunchtime online learning sessions for primary care nurses across Aotearoa, starting Thursday 30 October 12pm to 1pm. This is a relaxed way to build knowledge and gain practical skills in mental health and addiction support for whaiora and whānau. Delivered by a skilled nurse practitioner on a range of mental health and addiction practice topics.
In this session, the following topics will be touched on:
- Master a 10-minute mental health triage to rapidly and effectively assess whaiora needs.
- Gain a "What can I do NOW?" toolkit of brief, powerful interventions for managing depression and anxiety.
- Confidently assess suicide risk using a clear, supportive framework and learn to implement basic safety planning.
- Demystify common psychiatric medications to enhance your patient education and side-effect monitoring.
- Protect your own wellbeing with crucial strategies to manage emotional labour and prevent burnout.
Future dates and topics:
- Thursday 28 November 12pm to 1pm: Substance dependence and withdrawal – screening and support
- Thursday 29 January 2026
- Thursday 26 February 2026
