We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest in Adult Inpatient Psychiatry to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team at He Puna Waiora, our 40-bed acute inpatient unit located in Takapuna, North Shore. The unit provides specialist care for adults experiencing acute and severe mental health difficulties.

Waitematā Mental Health Services cover one of the largest and most diverse populations in Aotearoa New Zealand, extending across the North and West coasts of Auckland City - including the North Shore, Rodney District, and West Auckland. Our services support an ethnically diverse community, including Māori, Pacific, and Asian populations, across both urban and rural settings.

Mental Health Services for Adults deliver a continuum of care across inpatient and community settings for people experiencing significant mental health issues.

As an accredited training service, supervision of psychiatry trainees, house officers, and medical students forms an integral part of the role, offering excellent opportunities for teaching and professional development.

Providing clinical leadership within a multi-disciplinary team is a core component of the Consultant Psychiatrist position. The service operates within a robust clinical governance framework, ensuring active involvement of clinicians in service development, strategic planning, and quality-improvement initiatives.

About you

You will:

  • be vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • have a current Annual Practicing Certificate or be eligible for application
  • have a full clean driver's licence
  • have a willingness to commitment to improving services and increasing positive outcomes, particularly for Māori.
