Our client is a kaupapa Māori, not-for-profit organisation delivering integrated health, education, housing, social, and employment services across Tāmaki Makaurau. Their mahi is deeply grounded in tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with a focus on enhancing whānau wellbeing and mana motuhake. As part of their growing mental health and addiction team, they are seeking 2 Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau - Occupational Therapists to join their Te Oho Mauri programme.

  • One role will be based in their Te Āhuru Mōwai Service. This is a full wrap around service with clinical, housing, and community supports working together to encourage, and empower whānau transitioning from acute patient settings and back into a community of their choice.
  • The other role will be supporting a kaupapa Māori programme focused on mental health recovery, addiction support, and vocational development for ākonga.

He aha te tūranga - About the role

The Occupational Therapist plays a key role in enhancing the wellbeing and functional independence of tangata whaiora by addressing barriers to daily living caused by mental, emotional, cognitive, or environmental challenges. This includes co-developing therapeutic interventions, fostering resilience, and supporting vocational readiness within a culturally grounded and holistic service model.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough functional and psychosocial assessments of tangata whaiora.
  • Designing and delivering personalised care and rehabilitation plans.
  • Supporting daily living, emotional regulation, and skill-building through evidence-based interventions.
  • Facilitating psychoeducation and therapeutic coaching for whaiora and their whānau.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and community networks.
  • Maintaining timely and accurate documentation in the client management system.
  • Ensuring practice is grounded in ethical standards, OTBNZ regulations, and cultural responsiveness.
  • Contributing to continuous quality improvement and kaupapa-aligned service delivery.

Ngā pūkenga, ngā tohu ōu - What you will need

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational therapy from a recognised New Zealand institution or; OTBNZ assessed occupational therapy qualification from overseas.
  • Relevant clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Full and Valid NZ Driver’s License.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to ethical and professional standards.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to work with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Empathy, patience, and a commitment to client-centred care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.

Desired:

  • Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand.
  • Knowledge of te reo me ōna tikanga (or an active desire to learn).
