Part-time Peer Support Worker

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

Are you passionate about making a difference? We're looking for a dedicated Peer Support Worker to join our Tirohia Te Kopere Day Programme in Opotiki. You'll support Tāngata Whai Ora (people seeking health) on their recovery journey, offering encouragement and practical help to those with mental health or addiction challenges.

This is a permanent, part-time role (30 hours per week, Monday to Friday), where you'll be able to use your lived experience to support others in their path to wellbeing.

The hourly rate for the role is $24.97 to $29.83 (depending on relevant qualification).

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide compassionate support to Tāngata Whai Ora in their recovery journey and with daily activities
  • Draw on your personal lived experience to build meaningful connections and offer relatable guidance
  • Collaborate with clinical teams and external organizations to ensure the best outcomes for clients

He kōrero mōu | About You

For our team, it's vital that you have lived through your own experiences of mental distress and/or addiction*. You'll bring your own knowledge and experience of drug and alcohol addiction or mental health distress.

If you bring along the following, we would love to hear from you:

  • Your own experiences of mental distress and/or addiction*
  • A Level 4 in Health & Disability (or higher) qualification (desirable) or the willingness to work towards a relevant Level 4 qualification
  • Experience working within the mental health sector
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • A culturally respectful and non-judgmental attitude, with an understanding of Māori and Pacifica culture
